First Battles

The soldiers of Battalion „Gustaw” were tasked with capturing the buildings located in the area of Piłsudski Square, known as the German government district. However, due to a shortage of weapons, Captain „Gustaw” requested a last-minute change of plans. Instead of seizing German-occupied buildings, the unit was to secure the ends of the streets leading to Piłsudski Square. On August 1, 1944, none of the companies reached their designated area on time. Individual subunits engaged in combat independently, cooperating with encountered units. For example, Company „Grażyna” participated in the capture of the Main Post Office at Napoleon Square (now Powstańców Warszawy Square), where the soldiers acquired a significant amount of weapons.
